Project Manager – Defence


We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to support defence‑sector programmes within a fast‑paced manufacturing and engineering environment. You’ll lead projects from initiation to completion, coordinating cross‑functional teams and ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to strict quality and compliance standards. This role requires strong communication, structured planning, and the ability to manage risks, resources, and customer expectations across sensitive and high‑integrity projects.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead defence‑related projects through full lifecycle delivery.
  • Build and maintain project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Coordinate Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Production, Quality, and Logistics teams.
  • Act as the main point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor progress, manage risks/issues, and implement mitigation plans.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and reporting.
  • Chair project reviews and provide clear updates to management and customers.
  • Maintain accurate and controlled project documentation.
  • Support procurement and supplier performance aligned to defence requirements.
  • Work with production teams to meet manufacturing and assembly milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, MoD standards, and industry regulations.
  • Drive cross‑department communication to resolve technical and operational challenges.
  • Identify improvements to project processes and tools.
  • Support project handover, acceptance, and lessons‑learned activities.
  • Promote strong health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.


Experience & Qualifications


  • 3–5 years’ project management experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial, or defence environments.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams and full‑lifecycle projects.
  • Previous MoD or defence‑sector experience highly advantageous.
  • Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, Manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • PRINCE2, APM PMQ, PMP, or similar certification desirable.


Skills


  • Strong stakeholder and customer communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of project management methodologies.
  • Skilled in risk, issue, and dependency management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Experience with engineering changes and configuration control.
  • Understanding of quality systems and non‑conformance processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office and project tools (e.g., MS Project).
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Able to work under pressure and manage changing priorities.
  • Professional, customer‑focused, and committed to continuous improvement.
