Job Type:Contract 3-6 Months

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Vehicle Workshop Technician to join a specialist engineering team supporting prototype and development vehicle programmes.

This role is ideal for a technician with strong diagnostic capabilities who can confidently investigate, fault-find, and repair complex vehicle issues across mechanical, electrical, and powertrain systems. You will be working on prototype vehicles that have returned from testing, often requiring detailed investigation and independent problem-solving to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.

A strong understanding of internal combustion engines (ICE) is essential, including experience diagnosing and repairing engine-related faults, fuel systems, cooling systems, emissions systems, and associated vehicle functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and rectify complex mechanical, electrical, and vehicle system faults on prototype and development vehicles.
  • Investigate issues identified during vehicle testing and determine effective repair solutions.
  • Carry out repairs, modifications, component replacements, and rework activities.
  • Diagnose faults relating to internal combustion engines, powertrain systems, driveline components, fuel systems, cooling systems, and emissions equipment.
  • Use manufacturer diagnostics, specialist software, and workshop equipment to identify root causes of vehicle concerns.
  • Support software updates, system calibrations, and vehicle commissioning activities.
  • Prepare, maintain, and support prototype and development vehicles for testing programmes.
  • Work closely with engineers to provide technical feedback and support ongoing vehicle development activities.
  • Record findings, repairs, and corrective actions accurately.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with Health & Safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within an automotive workshop, prototype, development, or manufacturer environment.
  • Proven experience in vehicle diagnostics, electrical fault finding, and mechanical repair.
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engine systems, including engine operation, fuel systems, cooling systems, emissions systems, and associated fault diagnosis.
  • Ability to confidently investigate and resolve complex vehicle faults independently.
  • Experience working with prototype, development, pre-production, or low-volume vehicles is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of vehicle electrical architecture, CAN systems, and modern automotive technologies.
  • Experience using automotive diagnostic software, manufacturer tooling, and workshop equipment.
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems would be advantageous.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office and workshop management systems.

About You

You are a skilled technician who enjoys diagnosing and solving challenging vehicle faults. You can work independently, are comfortable managing your own workload, and have the confidence to investigate issues beyond simple component replacement.

You take pride in delivering high-quality repairs, have strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills, and enjoy working within a fast-paced engineering environment where no two days are the same.

Why Join?

  • Work on cutting-edge prototype and development vehicle programmes.
  • Join a highly skilled engineering team within a leading automotive environment.
  • Long-term contract opportunity.
  • Immediate start available.
  • Competitive contract rate.
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and development specialists.

If you're an experienced Vehicle Workshop Technician with strong diagnostic expertise, internal combustion engine knowledge, and experience repairing complex vehicle faults, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today with your latest CV.
